SWOLLEN GUMS AND MOUTH INFLAMMATION

Swollen gums or stomatitis is an inflammation os soft tissues of the mouth.

WATER TREATMENTS:
      1. Hot salt gargle, 3 times a day before meals.
      2. Massage gum with clean fingers every after hot salt gargle.
      3. Brush teeth with soft tooth brush. Brush teeth every after meals.
      4. Drink at least 4 glasses of fruit juice during the day.
      5. See the dentist for gum swelling and the physician for mouth infections.

HERBAL TREATMENTS:
   


1. Bayabas leaves decoction mouthwash
          . Boil one cup of chopped fresh leaves in 2 glasses of water for 10 minutes.
            Strain and cool.
          = Use the decoction for hot salt gargle or mouthwash every after meals.
   






2. Bunga fruit mouthwash
          . Peel and chop 3 fruits and boil in 2 glasses of water for 10 minutes.
          = Use as mouthwash or hot bunga gargle.
   







3. Kaymito leaves gargle
          . Boil 1 cup of chopped fresh leaves in 2 glasses of water for 10 minutes.
          = Use as decoction mouthwash
   









4. Duhat leaves mouthwash
          . Boil 1 cup of chopped fresh leaves in 2 glasses of water for 10 minutes.
   







5. Talong leaves mouthwash
          . Boil 3 chopped leaves in 2 glasses of water for 10 minutes.
          = Use the decoction for mouthwash or gargle.

SUNBURN AND PRICKLY HEAT

Sunburn or erythema is a redness of the skin occuring in the patches or variable
sizes and shapes due to excessive expossure to sunlight.

WATER TREATMENT:
     1. Starch bath  daily for 3-5 days.
     2. Bath with rain water. Powder with starch or gawagaw after the bath.

HERBAL MEDICATION:
   


1. Alusiman leaves
         . Extract juice from the leaves.
         = Aplly on the pricly heat after the starch bath.
 






2. Bayabas leaves
         . If there is infection., boil 1 cup of chopped leaves in one gallon of water.
           Add 2 gallons of cold water.
         = Bath with this direction.

SPRAINED ANKLE OR WRIST

 A sprain is the wrenching of a joint, producing a strething or laceration
 of the ligaments.

WATER TREATMENTS: 
     1. Ice pack on the ankle or wrist. 3 times a day immadiatelyafter the sprain.
     2. Cold compress on the ankle or wro\ist for 30 minutes., 3 times a day. 
     3. Wrap ankle or wrist elastic bandage after the ice pack. 
     4. Rest the foot or arm for 3 days for severe swelling and pain.
     5. Consult the physician immadiately for severe pain and swelling.

HERBAL MEDICATIONS: 

    
 1. Sabilla leaves poultice 
         . Pound 2 stems with leaves.
         = Apply directly as poultice on the ankle or wrist for 3o minutes, 3 times 
           a day. Use bandage to hold the poultice in place. 
   



 2. Kamantigui stems and leaves poultice 
         . Pound 2 stems with leaves. 
           Aplly directly as poultice for 30 minutes, 3 times a day. Use bandage to
           hold the poultice in place.
     





3. Kakawete leaves
         . Crush 10 leaves.
         = Apply directly as poultice for 30 minutes, 2 times a day. Use bandages to
           hold the poultice place.
    


 4. Mayana leaves or poultice
         . Crush 10 leaves.
         = Apply directly as poultice for 10 minutes, 3 times a day.
    





5. Kataka-taka leaves poultice
         . Crush 10 leaves.
         = Apply directly as poultice for 30 minutes, 3 times a day.

SORE THROAT

 A sore throat is a congestion or inflammation in the throat due to
tonsillitis, phraryngitis or laryngitis.

WATER TREATMENT:
     1. Hot salt gargle, 3 times a day. Before breakfast, before lunch. and
        at bedtime.
     2. Heating throat compress at the bedtime. Leave it on until morning.
        Repeat procedure if the patient stays home in the morning.
     3. Steam inhalation, 2 times a day. In the morning before breakfast,
        and before bedtime after the hot salt gargle.
     4. If possible, rest the voice until the swelling or inflammation
        subside.
HERBAL MEDICATION:
   


1. Luya or ginger lozenges
         . Wash and peel a small piece of ginger.
         = Chew slowly for a few minutes. Swallow the juice. Or, keep a small
           piece in the mouth, chewing it little by little.
   



2. Sabilla leaves
         . Wash the leaf and cut in 1/2 inch sizes.
         = Keep in the mouth all day, swallowing the jiuce. Take another piece
           when here is no more juice.
   


3. Bawang lozenges
         . Wash one piece and peel.
         = Keep in the mouth for some time, chewing it slow. Swallow juice.

SNAKE BITES

Snake bites may be poisonous and can be fatal if nothing is done
 immadaiately.

First Aid:
     1. Keep the patient still slow down to circulation.
     2. Incise the bitten area and let itbleed and remove the poison.
     3. Wrap a teaspoonful of salt in a handkerchief or a piece of
        cloth and moisten the salt with water. Apply it directly
        over the wound after bleeding. Apply for 10-15 minutes.
     4. Bring the patient to the nearest hospital or clinic immadiately.

HERBAL MEDICATIONS:
   

1. Adelfa leaves and branch poultice
         . Pound the 10 leaves and a piece poultice.
         = Apply directly on the wound after it has beb bled.
   






2. Kamantigui flowers poultice
         . Crush about 10 leaves.
         = Apply directly on the wound as poultice after it has been
           bled.

SKIN ITCHINESS AND ALLERGY

An allergy isa a condition of acquired specific alteration which may be
 caused by sensitazation and reexposure to alergen.
       Skin itchiness may be due to contact of alergen.

WATER TREATMENT:
     1. Starch bath. You may kamoteng kahoy flour for this.
     2. Gawgaw or starch powder. Use as powder after the bath or at bedtime.

HERBAL MEDICATIONS:
 
   


1. Kakawete leaves
         . Crush or chop young leaves or extract juice.
         = Apply the juice on the skin until the itchiness is relieved.
 





2. Kalatsutsi sap from leaves and trunk
         . Extract the sap or juice from the leaves or trunk. Mix with
           coconut oil.
         = Rub the mixture on the affected skin, 2 times a day.
   





3. Kanya Pistula ( Golden Showers ) leaves
         . Crush young leaves.
         = Rub the crushed leaves on the affected area until relieved
           from itchiness.

SKIN ERUPTION AND DERMATITIS

Dermatitis is the inflammation of the skin.

WATER TREATMENTS:

     1. Starch bath, once a day.
     2. Use dry starch or gawgaw as powder if the skin is itchy and dry at night
     3. Don't use soap when taking a bath; take a starch bath instead. Don't rub
        the skin with towel to dry the skin.
     4. Don't scratch the skin when itchy.

HERBAL MEDICATIONS:
   


1. comfrey leaves
         . Crush leaves and extract the juice.
         = Apply the juice on the affected skin, 3 times a day.
   






2. Balete bark
         . Boil one cup of chopped bark in 1/2 gallon of water for 10 minutes.
         = Wash area with decoction , 2 times a day. This may be done instead
           of the starch bath.
 



3. Kalatsutsi sap
         . Get the sap from the trunk and mix with a few drops of oil.
         = Apply directly on the affects skin.
   






4. Kakawete leaves
         . Crush 10 leaves and extract the juice.
         = Apply the juice on the itchy skin but do not rub.
           Apply as often as neccesary for itchiness.

HERBAL MEDICATION OF SCABIES

Scabies ("galis aso") is a contigious disorder of the skin caused by
Sarcopters scabies, characterized by multiform,lesions with intense itching
which occur mostly at night.

WATER TREATMENTS:

     1. Daily bath with soap and water.Change into clean clothes every after bath,
        including underwears.

     2. Put under the sun all beddings used at night mat.,pillows,sheets,blankets
        and night clothes.

     3. Sleep alone to prevent contaminating other members of the family.

     4. Always keep clean.Wash hands,feet and face,or take a bath before sleeping.


HERBAL MEDICATIONS:
   

1. MAKABUHAY vine tub bath
        . Chop a meter-long vine and boil in one gallon water for 15 minutes.
          Add enough water to fill up one plastic pail big enough to completely
          soak a child,if the whole body is infected.
        = For adults, use the decoction for hot compress on the affected parts only.

   

2. Kalatsutsi leaves
         . Boil 1 cup of chopped fresh leaves and a small branch in 1/2 cup coconut
           oil for 5 minutes . Let cool and keep bottle for future use.
        = Apply on the infected body part liberally after taking a bath.
 



 3. Mangga gum, resin or sap
         . Mix well the gum resin or sap taken from the mango trunk or bark with oil.
         = Apply liberally on the affected part, 2 times a day every after bath and
           in the evening before sleeping.
 



4. Kakawate leaves
         . Extract juice from the leaves.
         = Apply ont the affected part after taking a bath, and at bedtime.

WORM INFESTATION

Ascaris and other parasitic worms infest the intestine and cause malnutrition
in children.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES:
      1. Give daily to children and babies.
      2. Wash hands with soap and water before eating.
      3. Wash with soap and water or disinfect fruits and vegetables eaten raw like duhat,
         sineguelas, bayabas and vegetables salads.
      4. Cut fingernails short.
      5. Instruct children not to put fingers in the mouth.
      6. Encourage children and everyone to wear slippers and shoes at all times, specailly
         when walking on the ground.      
      7. Maintain a clean environment. Keep the house clean. Teach children to use toilet.

HERBAL MEDICATIONS:
      For Ascaris or Trichina:
     
1. Ipil-Ipil seeds
         For children: Eat the seeds of 5 fersh pads raw. Repeat after one week, if there
         are no results.
         For children and Adults: Cook 1 cup of dried seeds in frying pan without oil.
         Do not burn seeds. Pulverize . Mix with milk or water.
      Dosage:
         Adults: 1 teaspoon, 2 hours after supper
         Children: (7-9 years old) 1/2 teaspoon, 2 hours after supper
      NOTE: Dosage may be repeated after one week if needed.
 

   2. Papaya seeds
          . Dry 1 cup of seeds and pulverize. Mix with 1 cup milk or water.
          = Dosage:
            Adults: 1 teaspoon, 2 hours after supper
            Children: (7-9 yrs.old) 1/4 teaspoon, 2 hours after supper
                      (10-12 yrs.old) 1/2 teaspoon, 2 hours after supper
            NOTE: Dosage may be repeated after one week if needed.
   
 3. Akapulko seeds
          . Cook 1 cup of dried seeds in frying pan without oil.
            Pulverize. Mix with 1 cup milk or water.
          = Dosage:
            Adults: 1 teaspoon, 2 hours after supper
            children: (7-9 yrs.old) 1/4 teaspoon, 2 hours after super
                      (10-12 yrs.old) 1/2 teaspoon, 2 hours after supper
            NOTE: Dosage may be repaeated after one week if needed.

      For Pin Worms:
     


1. Niyog-niyogan seeds
         = Eat raw 2 hours after supper. Repeat after one week if needed.
           Dosage:
              Adults: 10 seeds
              Children: (4-7yrs.old) 4 seeds
                        (8-9yrs.old) 6 seeds
                        (10-12yrs.old) 7 seeds
   





2. Pineapple fruit, ripe

         = Eat 2-3 slices with every meal for one week.
         NOTE: when pinworm come out at night,wet cotton with oil and remove pinworm with
               cotton soaked oil.
         Change bed sheet, underwear, pajamas every night for one week.
                 

UNDERARM BODY ODOR

 Underarm body odor is the unpleasant smell coming out of the underarms or
 armpits.
 
WATER TREATMENTS:
      1. Daily bath with clean change clothing, including all underwear.  
      2. Change cloth every time they get wet with perpiration. Better yet, take a bath
         with every change of clothing, if possible.
      3. Drink at least 6 glasses of water during working hours.
      4. Avoid spicy foods. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

HERBAL TREATMENTS:
      1. Tawas ("ALUM") with kalamansi juice mixture.
          . Take a piece of solid tawas and pulverize it. Mix 1 tablespoon with the juice
            of 1 or 2 kalamansi.
          = Apply on the armpit every after bath and as necessary.
            Use as deodorant.
      2. Buyo-kalamansi deodorant
          . Extract juice from buyo leaves and mix with kalamansi juice.
          = Apply as deodorant every after bath and at bedtime.

TOOTHACHE

A toothache is any pain in or about a tooth.

WATER TREATMENTS:
      1. Brush teeth every after meals. Massage gums with clean fingers after brushing.
      2. Apply ice pack or ice compress for swollen gums and cheeks for 30 minutes, 3
         times a day.
      3. These treatements are for temporary relief only. See the dentist for proper
         treatment of cvities.

HERBAL MEDICATIONS:
   


1. Abukado seed
          . Slice a small piece that will fit into the tooth cavity.
          = Place as filling inside the cavity. Renew fillings 2 times a day.
   





2. Bawang fillings
          . Slice a small piece, enough to fit the tooth cavity.
          = Place inside the cavity as filling. Renew the fillings, 2 times a day.
   





3. Kataka-taka leaves
          . Crush young kataka-taka leaves.
          = Apply directly on swollen face.
   







4. Herba Buena leaves
          . Pound fresh and extract the juice. Moisten a small piece of clean cotton
            with the juice.
          = Place moist cotton inside the cavity as filling.
       



 NOTE: These medications ar only temporary relief of toothache due to cavities.
                See the dentist for proper treatment.
 

HOW TO TREAT RINGWORM

Ringworm is an infection of the skin, hair, and nails with various fungi,
 producing ring-like lesions with raised borders.


WATER TREATMENTS USING HERBAL DECOCTIONS:

     1. Daily bath with guava leaves decoction
        . boil 10 cups of chopped fresh guava leaves in 1/2 gallon os water for 15 minutes.
          Add enough cold water to fill up one big pail after straining.
        = Bath with this decoction while still hot.

   


2. TOBACCO leaves decoction shampoo (if head and hair are affected)
        . Boil 10 leaves of fresh tobacco leaves in 1/2 gallon of water for
          15 minutes.Cool and drain.Add enough water ti fill up a 3 gallon
           pail.
        = Shampoo hair with the decoction,once a day,until healed.

 




 3. KAMANTIGUI or touch me not balsam compress or poultice
        . Crush 5-10 kamantigui flowers.Amount depends upon the size of the infection.
          Crush the flowers until the juice is extracted.
        = Apply directly over the enfected part as compress for 30 minutes,2times a day.

 
 4. BAWANG or Garlic cloves
        . Peel and crush one clove and rub it on the affected part until it gets red.
        = Apply 2 times a day in the morning after the morning bath,and at bedtime.

   


5. ADELFA or (Oleander) bark and leaves
        . Chop a one-foot long branch. Mix with 1 cup chopped fresh young leaves.
           Mix the juice with 5 drops of fresh coconut oil.
        = Apply on affected parts,3 times a day.

 






6. AKAPULKO (Ringworm Bush or Shrub) leaves
        . Crush 5 leaves.
        = Rub the juice on the affected area, 2 times a day.
